About Chicago Detours

Our guided tours of architecture, history and culture bring people to explore stories and places locals don't even know. We are a group of educators, historians, artists and story-tellers. Founder Amanda Scotese launched Chicago Detours in July 2010 after close to a decade of travel in Italy as a Tour Guide and Guidebook Researcher with Rick Steves’ Europe. She decided to bring her travel expertise back home with tour experiences that are fun, educational, and truly make us feel connected with our grand city. Our professional Chicago tour guides are highly trained and educated, and we know how to spark discussions and create a lively group dynamic on our public and private group tours of Chicago. Walking and bus tour for public or private groups include the Loop Interior Architecture Walking Tour; 1893 World's Fair Tour with Bars and Food; Jazz, Blues & Beyond by Bus; and Big Shoulders Historic Bar and Food Tour.

How Chicago Detours Can Enrich Your Wedding Plans

Spaces and places mean more to us when we hear the stories behind them. For a locally focused wedding, Chicago Detours connects your guests with a personal side to exploring the city's architecture and history. Ways we can work together with your wedding celebrations:
  • Bachelor and Bachelorette Parties - Bring friends on an educational historic bar tour
  • Rehearsal Evening Food Tour - Bus tours with food, drink and stories are a fun and casual alternative to a rehearsal dinner
  • Custom Ceremony or Reception Venue Tours - Have guests learn the stories behind architectural details of a church or former warehouse, for example.
  • City Tours Between Ceremony and Reception - Treat your wedding guests to a tour of architectural highlights or secret spots on the way to the reception.
  • Day-After Private Tour for Close Family and Friends - Bond and decompress with close family and friends on an exploration of the city before saying goodbye.
  • Public Walking Tours for Guests in Town - Recommend a quality, local experience to guests coming into Chicago from out of town.
